Marvin Minsky’s The Society of Mind remains influential, though rarely credited. This article on decision-making in bees is an example. The process in this article is especially interesting given functionally similar systems in the human brain – though humans are often stuck in two states of mind for long periods of time, even permanently, when conflicting ideas or goals remain unreconciled.
